Hey Guys,
For those of you who have been following the BAYC for some time, you will have known that they are not new to high value airdrops. Indeed, both the Mutant Ape Yacht Club and the Bored Ape Kennel Club were because of airdrops to the Bored Ape Holders.
However, these were NFT airdrops which meant that they weren’t easily accessible to the broader crypto market. That is why Yuga labs made it clear towards the end of last year that they would like to create a governance token that is fungible.
It was long speculated and with that Apecoin airdrop, it was confirmed.
This was perhaps one of the most valuable airdrops to date and this has elicited some strong feelings in the community – positive and negative.
Despite being a recipient of some of the airdrop, I did think it was constructive to take an impartial deeper dive into the token itself to see whether it really was worth it.
So, today I will be examining the underlying structure of Apecoin. Who controls it, what purpose it serves, its underlying tokenomics and its broader distribution concentration.
I will be analysing both its long-term potential as well as the criticism that it appears to have garnered in the crypto space.
