Why You Need a Good Portfolio Tracker
The journey of the average crypto hodler is an interesting one. Most of us start off with some Bitcoin, then pick up some Ethereum, and then go deeper and deeper down the digital rabbit hole. Next thing you know you are aping into 70+ altcoins, have 23 different wallets set up and accounts on 9 different exchanges.
At least, that is how the journey went for many of us here at the Coin Bureau. At some point, it becomes evident that trying to manually track all your assets and thousands of transactions on spreadsheets or mindmaps becomes overwhelming, and frankly, nearly impossible, which is why most people in the industry end up adopting a portfolio tracker like the one offered by CoinStats.
The sooner you start using a portfolio tracker, the better, trust us. If you decide to “wing it” for a year or two in crypto, and then decide to use a portfolio tracker, adding all your historical data into the tracker months down the line can be a very time-consuming task. You’ll find yourself wishing you had just used one from day one.
Portfolio trackers not only help save you countless hours through automation but keep everything organized and more accurate as well, which also aids in future projections and decision-making.
A cryptocurrency portfolio tracker serves as your financial compass in the vast and often volatile crypto landscape. It goes beyond the basic function of monitoring prices; it empowers you with comprehensive insights, real-time data, and analytical tools that are essential for informed decision-making. Having a robust cryptocurrency portfolio tracker is not just a convenience but a necessity for anyone investing in the crypto space.

This exported data can then be imported into crypto tax tools, simplifying the task of calculating taxes on cryptocurrency gains and losses.
Holistic Portfolio Performance Analysis
Beyond mere profit and loss tracking, a good portfolio tracker offers an analysis of your portfolio's performance. Dive into detailed statistics, graphs, and charts that showcase your asset allocation, diversification, and historical performance trends.

Furthermore, the security measures embedded in the CoinStats mobile app, particularly within its wallet are noteworthy. The inclusion of a 6-digit PIN or a biometric scanner adds an extra layer of protection.
Here’s a comparison of both the desktop and the mobile version of the CoinStats platform:
- Security and Multiple Wallets:
- Connecting multiple wallets with significant amounts of crypto is more secure on a desktop, considering the controlled environment at home.
- Security is a top priority, and desktop environments often provide additional layers of protection vs mobile.
- Ease of Manual Input:
- Manually adding coins or transactions is easier with a keyboard on a desktop, offering an easier and more accurate input method.
- Advanced Trading and Visualization:
- Larger screens on a desktop make it easier to monitor charts and visualize portfolio metrics, providing a better trading experience.
- Convenient Portfolio Checking:
- The convenience of having your phone with you at all times allows for quick and regular portfolio checks, providing real-time updates on your investments.
- Price Alerts and Trading on the Go:

What Could Be Better?
While CoinStats offers a highly functional platform for tracking cryptocurrency portfolios, and even the free version provides incredible value that is useful for any level of crypto trader, we did encounter a few challenges during our experience, particularly in the integration process with certain wallets.
- Incomplete Asset Porting with Specific Wallets: Despite the overall effectiveness of the platform, we observed issues when integrating with wallets such as ELLIPAL, Zengo, and Tangem. Unfortunately, some assets failed to port over seamlessly, necessitating a workaround. To accurately reflect our Solana and Polkadot balances, we resorted to manually adding a portfolio. Manually importing the wallets was quick and simple, but it is still notable to mention that they did not sync over automatically.
- Validation Errors during Wallet Synchronization: Another noteworthy annoyance arose when attempting to synchronize wallets. Despite copying and pasting wallet addresses directly from ELLIPAL and Zengo, we encountered occasional errors stating that certain addresses were invalid. This sporadic issue prompted us to have to manually input transactions into the CoinStats app.
- Lack of Staked Asset Balances: Notably, the CoinStats app does not display the balances of staked assets. For instance, our Cosmos Atom balance appeared significantly lower than the actual value due to the app's inability to account for our staked ATOM balance. While we could mitigate this by manually adding transactions, the absence of automated tracking for staked assets detracts from the platform's comprehensive portfolio overview.
Although these issues were manageable through manual interventions, they represent areas where CoinStats could enhance its seamless integration capabilities. Improving the accuracy of asset porting, addressing validation errors during wallet synchronization, and incorporating support for staked asset balances would contribute to a more user-friendly and efficient portfolio tracking experience.
CoinStats App Closing Thoughts
CoinStats stands out as an exceptional cryptocurrency portfolio tracker, boasting a range of impressive and distinctive features that set it apart from other platforms in the market. Notably, its extensive transaction searching capabilities and the dedicated tab for DeFi holdings make it a comprehensive tool for managing and analyzing your crypto assets.
What truly distinguishes CoinStats is its holistic approach to crypto tracking. Beyond merely providing a platform for monitoring portfolios, it integrates additional functionalities seamlessly. While keeping tabs on your crypto investments, users can conveniently stay updated on the latest news in the crypto sphere or monitor the trends in NFT sales. In essence, CoinStats positions itself as an all-in-one solution.
However, as CoinStats ambitiously strives to offer support for over 300+ wallets and platforms, it encounters occasional challenges with API integrations. Notably, some popular wallets, such as the Phantom wallet on the Solana network may experience issues when trying to view DeFi assets. While the platform's reach is commendable, users should be mindful of potential hiccups in API functionality, particularly when using certain wallets. Despite these occasional challenges, which can be overcome with manual inputs, CoinStats is a powerful and versatile tool for managing cryptocurrency portfolios, providing users with a comprehensive and feature-rich experience.
